Asklepios Nordseeklinik Sylt: operations continue throughout reconstruction of operating theatre

|   Air filter technology

A big challenge for us …

In Westerland on the isle of Sylt there are only two operating theatres and one intervention room. The challenge was to reconstruct the operating theatres while operations had to continue. The intervention room and operating theatre 2 were equipped in compliance with H1b room class – here we installed our HEPA filter outlets and extraction air ducts made of galvanised sheet metal with stainless steel fluff separators. A LAF recirculated air ceiling with two ceiling recirculated air modules and ambient lighting was installed in the operating theatre 1. The size of this LAF recirculated air ceiling was not fully in line with the applicable DIN 1946-4 2008-12 standard (according to which the size of an LAF recirculated ceiling should be 3.2 x 3.2m) to comply with the H1a room class, however we clarified with the hygiene team in advance that due to space conditions in the operating theatre 1 this room should be tested by the Hygiene Institute HYBETA with the smaller LAF recirculated air ceiling in line with H1a room class. The protection level test was passed with flying colours. Additionally, we installed four air extraction ducts made of galvanised sheet metal with stainless steel fluff separators in operating theatre 1.
